Titan America subsidiary Roanoke Cement Co. hosted the “Monster High Line” challenge as part of Technical Rescue Association of Virginia’s Rescue Challenge 2016, reported The Roanoke Times. Teams participated in a technical rescue scenario at the company’s inactive quarry where an unconscious child was floating on an inner tube and the child’s father had fallen 50 ft. to a top bench in the same pit.
The Rescue Challenge brings teams in from all over the eastern part of the United States to conduct various types of technical rescue scenarios throughout the valley. These scenarios are designed to challenge these teams with problem solving, skills, teamwork and equipment usage.
Other scenarios throughout the area included a cave rescue in the “Murder Hole” located outside Roanoke Cement; a structural collapse; and a confined space rescue in Gathright Dam.
All eight teams were allotted three to four hours to accomplish their rescue. More than 160 rescue personnel visited Roanoke Cement over the four-day event to compete in the Monster High Line challenge. Participants included ER doctors, fire departments, Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Urban Search and Rescue Virginia Task Force, and the Marine’s Chemical Biological Incident Response Force.
